You'll be able to try them both out at the next Geek Dinner, because a special Geek Musical Attraction will be there. Five Year Mission (http://fiveyearmission.net) is an Indianapolis band trying to create an original song for every episode of the TV series Star Trek. Last November at Starbase Indy, the group released their first CD ("Year One") and plan to continue releasing one CD a year at that event ... leaving us hanging for another eight months. 5YM will be performing some of the songs for the Bloomington Geeks at our gathering at Max's Place. They will also bring their CD to sell for $10, so bring some extra cash to grab a copy. If you have kids who are into sci-fi, bring them along to enjoy the show!

SociaLens (http://socialens.com), a local social media consultancy helping organizations thrive in the digital age, played a big part in getting the band to Bloomington. They'll also be providing some free pizza and will introduce the band, whose performance will then segue into the regular Open Mike Night event at Max's.All this on top of the regular enticements of food, drink, and talking tech with local technologists, science fiction buffs, entrepreneurs, and makers. Don't miss it! See you at Max's Place, Wednesday, April 6th, at 6PM.

To help deal with the logistics involved, we need to have a good idea of who is attending. We have space at Max's for 60-80 people. Tell us about it at Max's Place next Tuesday!

See you at Max's Place, Tuesday, October 6th, at 5:30 PM.Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-31726157575145979002009-07-30T10:50:00.000-07:002009-07-30T11:21:37.577-07:00Geek Dinner, August 13th, SproutboxAfter a long summer layoff it's time to celebrate! Local tech company Sproutbox celebrated the grand opening of their new location this summer, and they've generously agreed to host a special dinner in their space. (SproutBox is an elite crew of product developers, creatives and business experts, that invests talent in startup companies with high growth potential). Come for pizza and drinks and to admire what a motivated bunch of Bloomington geeks can put together when they try. And as always, we'll be talking tech with all the geeks of Bloomington! (Sproutbox's new digs are at 400 West 7th St. in suite #200.)

See you at Sproutbox, on Thursday, August 13, at 6:00 PM.Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-28645583731470144332009-04-22T14:40:00.000-07:002009-04-23T19:02:46.472-07:00Geek Dinner, May 4th, La CharreadaIt's time again for a Geek Dinner! We'd like to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but figuring that every single Mexican restaurant in town in already celebrating, we're going to go a little early and celebrate Quatro de Mayo instead, and we'll stray outside of our usual downtown confines and visit the large Mexican restaurant La Charreada on North Walnut. We'll plan a slightly later dinner for this evening, around 6:30. Come for food, drink, and talking tech with the geeks of Bloomington - stay for a Margarita or two in the lounge!

See you at La Charreada, Monday, May 4th, at 6:30 PM.

Add event to your calendar (iCal) (Thanks to NerdDinner.com)Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-89207037705568003312009-02-18T17:18:00.000-08:002009-02-18T17:26:59.855-08:00Geek Dinner, March 3rd, Dunn InnHurray! It's time for another dinner. This time we're trying out a new place in town, the Dunn Inn, with a small dining area and bar on Dunn Street between 3rd Street and 4th. I hope we don't overwhelm them too badly - we always tell our hosts to expect 25 to 30, but I'm sure we were close to 40 this last time - a terrific turnout! So maybe we'll see that many again. We've scheduled the event for 6:00 this time, but as always, expect to come and stay for a couple of hours, and many will be there later. Food, drink and talking tech with the geeks of Bloomington!

See you at the Dunn Inn, Tuesday, March 3rd, at 6PM.Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-78780178747064833432009-01-05T18:29:00.000-08:002009-01-05T18:33:16.414-08:00Geek Dinner, January 14th, Max's PlaceIt got too busy over the holidays to have a dinner, but now that everyone's recovered from December, it's time for another one! Come join us at our favorite venue, Max's Place, next Wednesday the 14th. People will start to arrive at 5:30, but budget a couple of hours to talk tech with the geeks of Bloomington...and then if you like, stick around Max's for some music as Wednesdays are open mike nights!

See you at Max's Place, Wednesday, January 14th, at 5:30 PM.Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-13111311643196062752008-10-02T07:49:00.000-07:002008-10-02T07:52:37.521-07:00Geek Dinner, Oct. 14th, Malibu GrillHad a lot of folks show up at Max's Place last time, very few of whom I recognized. The next dinner will be at the Malibu Grill, 106 N. Walnut Street, on Tuesday, Oct. 14th at 6:30 PM. I think we'll be heading to Max's Place more often now; we've gone to several different places and Max's is by far the easiest one to have a conversation in. So come see us September 4th and we'll see if we pick up some new geeks for the beginning of the school year!

That's food, drink, and talking tech with the geeks of Bloomington.
6PM, Sept. 4th at Max's Place, 109 W. 7th Street, between College and Walnut. Instead of having a dinner in dark of night, requiring busy parents to find a babysitter or not come together, we've reserved a shelter house in Bryan Park for the day. Geeks are invited, significant others who aren't geeks are invited, kids are invited. I like to say, food, drink, and tech with the geeks of Bloomington, but it's not quite that simple this time! Come out to this event and meet the families and friends of those geeks you already know!

What to bring? Bring something to snack on, lawn chairs, the usual picnic stuff. Bring food for a few extra people if you feel so inclined; don't if you don't. We're still working out the details of what we'll have available.

When: People will be there at 1PM. Come at one, come later, come whenever you can.

Where: Bryan Park shelterhouse, the one off of Woodlawn.

See you there!Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110649825876730536.post-23371585162663064222008-04-29T06:52:00.000-07:002008-04-29T06:59:02.675-07:00Geek Dinner, May 5th, Crazy HorseWe left the scheduling kind of late, but you weren't doing anything anyway, now were you? Come join us at the Crazy Horse Monday, May 5th, to celebrate IU finals being over (if it applies), the primary election on Tuesday (if it applies) or that it's your birthday sometime near then if it applies - and it does, for me :) Come help me celebrate! The kind folks at Envisage are going to try to reserve the back room from about six to about nine, so come when you can and leave when you like. See you there!Ben Fultonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04858593972149277774noreply@blogger.com1
