Geek Dinner, April 6th, Max's Place

Max's Place has a new location right on the square, with more tables and a new stage. You'll be able to try them both out at the next Geek Dinner, because a special Geek Musical Attraction will be there. Five Year Mission (http://fiveyearmission.net) is an Indianapolis band trying to create an original song for every episode of the TV series Star Trek. Last November at Starbase Indy, the group released their first CD ("Year One") and plan to continue releasing one CD a year at that event ... leaving us hanging for another eight months. 5YM will be performing some of the songs for the Bloomington Geeks at our gathering at Max's Place. They will also bring their CD to sell for $10, so bring some extra cash to grab a copy. If you have kids who are into sci-fi, bring them along to enjoy the show!

SociaLens (http://socialens.com), a local social media consultancy helping organizations thrive in the digital age, played a big part in getting the band to Bloomington. They'll also be providing some free pizza and will introduce the band, whose performance will then segue into the regular Open Mike Night event at Max's.All this on top of the regular enticements of food, drink, and talking tech with local technologists, science fiction buffs, entrepreneurs, and makers. Don't miss it! See you at Max's Place, Wednesday, April 6th, at 6PM.

To help deal with the logistics involved, we need to have a good idea of who is attending. We have space at Max's for 60-80 people. Please visit http://t.co/2BZ805i to RSVP.

Day 15000 Celebration, January 25th, Fountain Square Mall

If you're a Linux user, you may know that epoch time refers to the number of seconds since Jan. 1st, 1970. The 15000th day of epoch time is coming up soon, and what better reason for a celebration? The fine folks at Suso , a Bloomington website hosting and website design company, are sponsoring a gathering in the Fountain Square Mall ballroom to support this important event! (Suso is a Bloomington web hosting and Internet services provider and website development company.) Come along and discuss why you prefer Linux over Windows, Java over .Net, and...Oracle over Microsoft?

Hmm, that last one might be tricky. Maybe we'll just talk about your new Verizon iPhone, or what you learned at CodeMash in Cleveland. But whatever you choose, come for pizza, drinks and to talk tech with all the geeks of Bloomington! Suso is located at 101 W. Kirkwood Avenue, Suite #222. Visit http://www.day15000.com/ for more information.

See you at Fountain Square Mall, Tuesday, January 25th, at 5:00 6:00 PM.

Geek Dinner, October 18th, Sproutbox

We're back to Sproutbox for our long-overdue first Geek Dinner of the fall. Have a good time at the Combine? Want to discuss the strategies used at the Dev Derby? Or maybe you're interested in a Google TV or wondering how the IU football team is getting its action filmed in 3D?

Or, if you're sneaky, you might have a chance to pitch your great product idea to the SproutBox brain trust - they are an elite crew of product developers, creatives and business experts that invest talent in startup companies with high growth potential, and are generously opening their offices for an evening to the community.

Come for pizza, drinks and to talk tech with all the geeks of Bloomington! (Sproutbox is located at 400 West 7th St. in suite #200.)

See you at Sproutbox, on Monday, October 18th, at 6:00 PM.

Geek Dinner, Aug 2nd, Sweet Grass

Okay, so a little thunder and lightning kept you away from our last geek dinner. C'mon, what's a tornado or two between friends? (OK, I actually didn't show up either. If you did, hope you had a good time!) But now it's time to make that one up by driving a little south to Sweet Grass.

Sweet Grass is a relatively new Bloomington offering that brings South Carolina style fried green tomatoes and shrimp po'boys to town. But the highlight isn't on the food, we know, but talking tech - and Bloomington is offering a lot of chances to talk tech these days - the Bloomington Technology Partnership is rolling, The Combine is coming in September, and TedX Bloomington is on the way next year!

So come and talk about how you talk about technology. See you at Sweet Grass, Monday, August 2nd, at 5:30 PM.

Geek Dinner, June 15th, Max's Place

Stayed in Bloomington for the summer and suffering from technology withdrawal? Never fear, it's time for another Geek Dinner! Max's Place has a nice variety of sandwiches, pizza and some good beer to enjoy while you discuss technology. Writing the next great iPad app? Or has AT&T's new pricing plans forced you over to the Android market? Maybe you're bypassing all of the mobile applications in favor of the new Silverlight release.

Tell us about it at Max's Place on Tuesday! (But try not to leave that next generation iPhone at the bar).

See you at Max's Place, Tuesday, June 15th, at 6:00 PM.

Geek Dinner, Apr. 5th, Envisage

Another local tech company has generously agreed to support a Geek Dinner. Envisage Technologies is a local software company specializing in training management, resource optimization, for law enforcement and military organizations. (It's also the company I work for, BTW) . Recently Envisage has moved to new offices in Fountain Square Mall, and they've invited us in to see them for this month's dinner. Envisage's new digs in Fountain Square Mall are in Suite 200, on the second floor at the far west side of the building. Come by the Envisage offices for pizza, drinks, and talking technology with the geeks of Bloomington.

See you at Envisage, Monday, Apr. 5th, at 6PM.

Geek Dinner, Feb. 3rd, Irish Lion

And we're back once again for our first Geek Dinner of the new decade. The Irish Lion has a fascinating variety of traditional Irish food, which should go nicely with a contemporary discussion of the latest gadgets, platforms, and coding strategies. Bring along that new Kindle, or debate whether writing a Droid app is easier or harder than writing one for the iPhone. Tell us which way you roll! Or just come along for the food, drink, and talking tech with the geeks of Bloomington.

See you at the Irish Lion, Wednesday, February 3rd, at 5:30 PM.
