Eat, drink and talk tech with local Bloomingtonians. Need something to talk about? You are sure to find someone who is up to date on driverless cars, cryptography in handheld devices, 3-D printing, the impact of technology on whale communication, the recent Makevention event, the upcoming DerbyCon or the newest practices in software development.

Geek Dinner, March 20, Max's Place

As far as we know, Max's Place hasn't banned Google Glass yet, so it seems like the ideal place to hold a Geek Dinner! Bring down your high-tech glasses or just your new Chromebook to show off. We'll discuss how bad playing SimCity is and find out what happened at Startup Weekend Terre Haute. Or any other technological topics that have your interest this month.

Since the Mayans have let us down, we're planning a regular set of Geek Dinners for 2013, and we'll start it off with a Geek Sports Dinner at downtown mainstay Opie Taylor's. Have big plans for Facebook's Graph Search? Tell us about it! Want to discuss Aaron Swartz and the freedom of information? Come on down! Or show off your latest gadget, or even the great app you created for that gadget. And afterwards, hang around at Opie's to watch the Hoosiers take on Purdue on the big screen.

Geek Dinner, Feb. 8th, Alchemy

It sounds like SOPA's back on the shelf, so it's time to celebrate! Join the geeks of Bloomington at the new Alchemy restaurant for dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 8th at 6PM. Come find out what the new Solution Lab is all about, and see how the new local startup Impulse Coupons did at their competition in Chicago. We want to hear your opinion on what Apple did right and what Kodak did wrong. And bring along any other topics of geeky interest that strike your fancy.

Geek Dinner, November 10th, Greek's Pizzeria

We're in a bit of a somber mood this month as three giants of the technology world passed away recently: Steve Jobs, cofounder of Apple; Dennis Ritchie, the inventor of the C programming language, and John McCarthy, the creator of Lisp.

We're getting together to celebrate the lives of these three great technologists, and we hope you can join us too. We'll meet at Greek's Pizzeria on Thursday, November 10th (that's 11/10/11, a nice binary date) at 6PM, and talk about how they've influenced us. And of course, if there are any other topics you'd like to discuss with local technologists, come along and bring them up too!

Geek Dinner, August 4th, Opie Taylor's

Come downtown to Opie Taylor's for our summertime Geek Dinner! Pick up some new contacts for that Google Plus account, or share what you're listening to on Spotify or turntable.fm. Locally, you can make your plans for the next Combine, and maybe come up with some ideas for the next Bloomington Startup Weekend - both are coming in the fall. Or, share your gadgets you've created at the new Bloominglabs Hackerspace. The local tech scene is jumping so come see what's exciting here in town!
